The Sanctuary, an overnight mental health crisis service delivered by Self Help, announced today that they will move their crisis centre in Leigh to a new address from Wednesday 20 January, 2016.

The address of the new location is Claire House, Phoenix Way, Ince, Wigan WN3 4NW.
All other contact information including phone numbers remain the same: 01942 410 522 or 0300 003 7029.

Self Help has been commissioned by 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, since October 2014, to provide a place of safety for local residents to turn for support and advice. Since then, The Sanctuary has provided support to 418 people who were in crisis and struggling to cope with mental health difficulties.

5 Boroughs Partnership delivers a wide range of mental health services from Claire House to treat, support and guide people in the community to enjoy positive mental health.

Nicky Lidbetter, Chief Officer for Self Help, commented:
“We’re proud to be working with our healthcare partners in Wigan and Leigh to ensure that people receive appropriate support in the community when they need it most.

This move to the new premises will mean that The Sanctuary is co-located with crisis services and other support provided by 5 Boroughs Partnership. We hope this will further increase strong partnership working and make The Sanctuary even more accessible to people when they need it most.”

Wigan and Leigh residents, or those registered with a GP in the boroughs, can continue to access the service by calling The Sanctuary on 01942 410 522 or 0300 003 7029. Following a conversation with trained Sanctuary staff, people will then either be offered telephone support or they will be invited to come to The Sanctuary for one-to-one support.

The Sanctuary Wigan and Leigh is open all night, every night (8pm – 6am) welcoming people experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, depression or suicidal thoughts outside of usual office hours.

The service provides an important alternative to people who, in the past, have gone to A&E services when experiencing a mental health crisis during the night.

Figures show that 40% of clients using The Sanctuary said that they would have accessed an emergency service or gone to A&E if the service did not exist.

The Sanctuary Wigan and Leigh is one of a number of Sanctuary crisis facilities delivered by Self Help across Greater Manchester, including an overnight service in Bolton and a 24-hour crisis line which operates throughout Manchester, Trafford, Salford, Tameside and Glossop.
