Self Help, came up trumps in the Spirit of Manchester 2015 Awards, scooping the Health and Wellbeing Award – voted for by the audience at the ceremony.

The Spirit of Manchester Awards is a series of awards celebrating and highlighting all the excellent work being carried out in Manchester’s voluntary and community sector.

Self Help’s crisis support, The Sanctuary, which provides mental health support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout Manchester, proved they are an organisation committed to improving mental health through providing innovative services.

The Sanctuary is a 24-hour service offering a telephone crisis line during the day, from 6am – 8pm, alongside an existing night time service, from 8pm – 6am, when clients can attend in person.

Chief Officer of Self Help, Nicky Lidbetter said: “I am delighted that The Sanctuary, our innovative and responsive crisis support service, has received the recognition that it deserves in winning this prestigious award. It is a testament to the hard-working, dedicated team who support people in times of great need.

“The Sanctuary has had such a positive impact on so many local lives – providing support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I hope that this achievement will help to raise the profile of The Sanctuary and will lead to greater commissioning of our crisis services.”
